Spring Magic Art Journal Page

Yesterday I enjoyed some time to play in my art journal. I find that I like to do a page or two in my art journal when I'm trying to get inspired or if I just want to play and not have to think how the final project will turn out. So, for my art journal page, I pulled out a variety of dies from ModaScrap, Joset Designs and Suzanne Cannon and stamps from Krista Schneider to create my Spring Magic Art Journal Page. Read below as I share with you how I created some of the elements on my art journal page.

For the base of my art journal page. I started with a layer of dictionary paper and added a coat of white gesso overtop of it. Once the gesso has dried,  using a paint brush, tap Turquoise, Aquamarine and Jade Magenta Nuance powder on the art journal page. Spritz with water. Let the colour dry.
After the colour has dried, apply Jet Black Archival Ink to the Circle Background stamp from Krista Schneider and stamp the circles randomly on your art journal page.

The strips of paper were cut from Joset Designs Decorative Edges 1 die out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. After the edges were cut, you'll want to trim them to desired width and lengths. On one strip, sprinkle Turquoise Magenta Nuance powder and then spritz with water. On the second strip, sprinkle Aquamarine Magenta Nuance powder and spritz with water. On the third strip, sprinkle Jade Magenta Nuance powder and then spritz with water. Let the strips dry and then adhere them in the center of the coloured area. Die cut the Dandelion Fluff die from ModaScrap out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Foam square the dandelion fluff pieces and adhere over top of the strips.

Die cut the Spring Magic, A Way With Words Die out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Sprinkle Jade and Turquoise Magenta Nuance powder over the words and spritz with water. Let the words dry. Once the words had dried, foam square the Spring Magic and adhere to the left of the dandelion fluff.

Die cut the small Dragonfly die from ModaScrap out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Foam square the dragonfly and adhere it to the top right hand corner of the art journal page. To add some extra interest to the page, rub Black Soot and Brushed Pewter Distress Crayon randomly on the page. Rub Black Soot Distress Crayon in the top left and bottom right hand corners of the art journal page.

To finish your art journal page, splatter Brushed Pewter Distress Spray Stain randomly on the finished art journal page. Keep the art journal page open to allow for the spray stain to dry.

Thinking of You Card

Happy Friday!  I've been busy playing with the Colour My Flowers stamp set and die set designed by Joset Designs. I love how this card has turned out and by colouring the flowers with sparkle markers, the flowers really sparkle. Read below as I share with you how to recreate my Thinking of You Card at home.

Start by applying Jet Black Archival Ink to one of the leaf stamps and stamp it onto a piece of Watercolour Cardstock. Repeat the previous step for stamping the leaf a second time as well as stamp the other leaf twice. Apply Jet Black Archival Ink to four of the flower stamps and stamp onto the same piece of Watercolour Cardstock. One of the flower stamps, you'll need to stamp twice. Colour the flowers and leaves using the following Spectrum Noir Sparkle Markers: Emerald Green, Holly Leaf, Cosmos, Rose Quartz, Sea Breeze, Moonlight, Pink Garnet, Clear and Moonstone. Die cut the leaves and flowers out using the corresponding dies. Ink the edges of the flowers and leaves using Black Soot Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

Die cut the 4" Dashing Rectangle out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Ink the edges of the dashing rectangle piece using Black Soot Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

From the Words 2 - Thinking of You die set, die cut the "Thinking of You" words out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Blend Jet Black Archival Ink over the entire surface of each word.

Use adhesive and foam squares to adhere the flowers across the middle of the dashing rectangle piece. Adhere the leaves where desired in amongst the flowers.

Use foam squares to adhere the "Thinking of You" sentiment overtop of the middle flower.
To finish your card, cut a cardbase that measures 5 1/2" x 8 1/2", score at 4 1/4". Use foam squares to adhere the cardfront to the cardbase.

Here's a closeup of the finished card.

And here's the finished Thinking of You card.

Scissor Spring Mechanism Designer Challenge

It's time for a new Designer Challenge on the Elizabeth Craft Designs Blog today.  For April's challenge it's all about using the Scissor Spring Mechanisms Die by Becky Seddon. The inspiration for my project was Krista Schneider's Cacti stamp. With the cacti stamp in hand, I set out to create this clean and simple You're so Sharp! Notecard. Make sure to read below as I have a tutorial for you so that you can re-create my You're so Sharp! Notecard at home. Make sure to read all the way down to the bottom of the post as there's some information on how to get in on the fabulous giveaway from Elizabeth Craft Designs.

To start, die cut the small Scissor Spring Mechanism out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. To assemble the scissor spring, slide the two pieces together where the slits are, this will create two diamonds. Cut one of the diamonds off. Fold the top and bottoms so that they face out.

Apply Jet Black Archival Ink to the Cacti stamp and stamp onto a piece of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Place the co-ordinating die overtop of the cacti and run it through your die cutting machine. Watercolour the plant pot using Tombow Markers number 969 and 977. To watercolour the cacti use Tombow Marker number 249. For water colouring the top of the cacti, use Tombow Marker number 847. Ink the edges of the cacti using Vintage Photo Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

From the Dashing Rectangles die, die cut the 3 1/2" dashing rectangle out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Ink the edges of the rectangle using Vintage Photo Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam. Apply Jet Black Archival Ink to the "You're so Sharp!" stamp and stamp at the bottom of the rectangle.

From the Stitched Ovals die, die cut the 2 1/2" stitched oval out of green patterned paper from the Thinking About...Rio De Janeiro Paper Pack. Ink the edges of the stitched oval using Vintage Photo Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

With the Stitched Ovals dies still out, die cut the 2" stitched oval out of White Soft Finish Cardstock. Ink the edges of the stitched oval using Vintage Photo Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

Adhere the 2" White Soft Finish Stitched Oval to the 2 1/2" Patterned Paper Stitched Oval. Adhere the 2 1/2" patterned paper stitched oval to the middle of the cardfront.

Adhere the scissor spring mechanism to the back of the cacti image. Adhere the scissor spring mechanism to the middle of the 2" stitched oval.

To finish your notecard, cut a piece of White Soft Finish Cardstock that measures 5" x 7 1/2", score at 3 3/4". Adhere your cardfront to the cardbase.

Here are a few close up photos of the You're so Sharp! Notecard.
